A Brief Book Notice from Books At a Glance
By Fred Zaspel
Steve Wellum has for some time been endeavoring to show us how the Bible hangs together – that it is a story about Jesus driven by the unfolding of God’s saving promise in the historical covenants: see Kingdom Through Covenant (soon to be in its second edition), God’s Kingdom Through God’s Covenants, Progressive Covenantalism, and see his God the Son Incarnate and Christ Alone, where this concern shows up also.
Wellum’s famous pursuit has been needed and has profited many. Here in his new Christ from Beginning to End: How the Full Story of Scripture Reveals the Full Glory of Christ he teams up with former student Trent Hunter to tell the story again on a more popular level, and it’s a work I’m very happy to see available. Christians – all of us – need to learn what this book teaches: to read and understand the Bible as a gospel-shaped story about Jesus. If we miss this, we miss the whole point.
Easily accessible, Christian readers of all levels will find this a fascinating guide to God’s unfolding story. It’s sheer pleasure to commend this book.
