A Brief Book Notice from Books At a Glance
Alexander displays a thorough acquaintance with the text of Exodus itself as well as its theological bearing on the rest of Scripture. Deeply informed yet, despite its size, easily accessible to most readers. My only complaint is that (lending to its size) he spends too much time addressing questions of source and dealing with critical scholarship – certainly a needed service but one that no longer interests me. And it is easily skipped over. Still, Alexander’s guidance through the text and theology of Exodus, and that with New Testament connections, is exceptional. This may be my new favorite commentary on the book of Exodus. I won’t want to prepare a sermon from Exodus without it.
