A Brief Book Notice from Books At a Glance
By Fred Zaspel
My wife read this book a few years ago and just raved about it – said it was one of the best books she’d read in a very long time. So I’ve been intending to get to it myself, and I finally did.
My wife was right.
The authors’ focus is the biblical depiction of the eternal state (which they recognize consists of a new heaven and a new earth). Their approach is more Biblical Theology than Systematic, unfolding the biblical teaching about heaven under five headings:
- Creation
- Creation Marred
- Creation Renewed
- Rest
- Disturbed Rest
- Perfect Rest
- Kingdom
- The Kingdom at War
- The Kingdom at Peace
- Presence
- Banished from God’s Presence
- Blessed with God’s Presence
- Glory
- Exchange of Glory
- Brilliance in Glory
As you can see, each of these themes is progressively developed in light of their unfolding biblical revelation, from Genesis to Revelation.
The Biblical-Theological approach is excellent, and the themes themselves are rich and rewarding. This book is a real gem. Very well informed and thoroughly enjoyable.
I need to listen to my wife more!
