A Brief Book Notice from Books At a Glance
By Fred Zaspel
Recent years have witnessed a rising interest in devotional readings for the Christmas season, and if you are at all acquainted with the ministry of Sinclair Ferguson you will not be surprised to hear me say that his newest contribution to this genre is one you will not want to miss.
Christmas in its first instance was about love – the saving love of God in sending his Son to save. And in 1 Corinthians 13, the apostle Paul tells us about love at some length, describing for us how love ought to be evident in our own behavior. Sinclair Ferguson brings these ideas together in this exposition of 1 Corinthians 13 – the apostle Paul’s famous “love chapter”: Paul’s description of love tells us what we ought to be, but it also describes our Lord in his mission of redemption. The expositions are vintage Ferguson: warm, richly gospel-informed, and a sheer delight to read. Practically challenging but at each step with an eye to love as displayed most eminently in the Lord Jesus.
The book consists of twenty-four brief daily readings – just a few small-size pages each, followed by very brief paragraph “Reflection” and then a “Prayer.”
Whether you are looking to study 1 Corinthians 13 or for Christmastime devotional reading, this fits the bill wonderfully. Very highly recommended. You’re gonna love it.
