A Brief Book Notice from Books At a Glance
by Fred G. Zaspel
In the first century, Tatian put together his still famous Diatessaron – the four Gospels arranged in a single narrative. In 1933, the well-known Princeton-trained theologian Loraine Boettner did it again, and now it’s back in print in a new revised edition.
Nothing would or should ever replace our reading of the four Gospels and noticing their distinct emphases. But assembling it all together to read it all in a continuous Gospel narrative has an advantage also.
This new edition of Boettner’s work uses the Christian Standard Bible for its text. The main text reads as a continuous narrative with corresponding Scripture references in the margins. Maps are included. The editors have also updated, revised, and added to Boettner’s original headings and adjusted some dates to reflect contemporary scholarly consensus. In cases where more than one Gospel writer records the same event or teaching, the editors have printed the fullest account, inserting additional distinct material from parallel gospel accounts in [brackets] at the appropriate places.
An excellent resource for any study of the Gospels, and wonderful devotional reading as well. All four Gospels at once!
