A Brief Book Notice from Books At a Glance
by Fred G. Zaspel
Sinclair Ferguson is well known both as an outstanding Reformed theologian and for his warm and insightful preaching. This delightful little book, originally published in 2005, characteristically combines a well-informed exposition of the biblical text – considered well in its largest canonical context – with rich pastoral application. The book is small, but every page is a treat that every Christian would enjoy and no pastor preparing to preach through Ruth’s story would want to be without.
For a number of years running, back in the 1990s, Ferguson would preach at our church. We enjoyed his fellowship and ministry each time, and I recall that on one occasion he preached from the book of Ruth – “A Narrative of a Surprising Conversion.” You’ll find some of that here, and more. Models of warm, faithful biblical exposition. Most highly recommended. Perfect for wide distribution in the church and essential for pastoral sermon preparation.
