Chapter 7: What is Scripture? Three Views of Biblical Authority, Part 2

Fred Zaspel and Steve Wellum continue their discussion on Wellum’s new Systematic Theology, focusing on the doctrine of Scripture. Wellum contrasts the liberal view of Scripture with the traditional view, emphasizing that in the liberal view, there is no direct relationship between human authors and God’s revelation. Instead, Scripture is seen as a product of religious communities and their experiences, without divine authority. Wellum also noted that this view often accommodates extratextual schemes such as philosophy, science, and psychology to interpret Scripture. In contrast, he mentioned the neo-orthodox view, which he describes as a middle ground between the traditional and liberal views.
